Walk through the nine steps below to help fix the error in Sage 50 Accounting. Be sure to go through each one to fully troubleshoot the problem.
You’ll see the error “You’ve entered a value that has been assigned to another record. You can’t have two records with the same value” in Sage 50 Accounting for different reasons. Here are nine steps to help fix it.
Install the latest version on all computers
Transaction accuracy
- Verify if the item, customer, vendor, or project already exists.
- Use the item, customer, vendor, or project number in the transaction.
Turn off the module and turn back on
- Select Setup, User Preferences, then View.
- Uncheck the affected module.
- Select OK.
- Close and re-open Sage 50.
- Select Setup, User Preferences, then View.
- Check the affected module.
- Select OK.
- Verify you no longer receive the message.
Remove all passwords
- Open your company file in single-user mode with the sysadmin user.
- Go to Setup, Set up Users & Roles.
- Enter the sysadmin password.
- Take a screenshot of the user’s setup screen (because you’ll have to recreate these users).
- One by one, select each user and click Remove User, except the sysadmin.
- Select the sysadmin and click Modify User.
- Remove the sysadmin password: enter a character in the Enter Password box, press the Backspace key, and click OK.
- Recreate the usernames and passwords for all users.
- Add the email address if this is a file shared with RDA
Run DButil
- Follow How to use the Database Utilities (Sage_SA_dbutil.exe).
- Verify you no longer receive the message.
Problems creating a new customer or vendor record
- Open the Purchase or Sales Invoice window.
- Manually type in the new vendor or customer name.
- Press the Tab key on your keyboard.
- Select Quick Add - Just add the name for now. You can add detailed information later by editing the record.
- Select OK.
- Close the invoice.
- Open the vendor or customer list and find the newly added vendor or customer.
- Enter the vendor or customer information and select Save and Close.
The issue is related to adding a new inventory item
- Ensure the item name and number is different from other inventory items already stored.
- Go to Reports, Lists, Inventory & Services.
- Put a checkmark to include inactive items and internal services activities.
- Select OK to preview the report.
- Go to the top of the report.
- If you see a blank line for item number with a quantity or value of 0.00, rename the item.
- Open the inventory record with a blank inventory item number or description
- Change the inventory number and name to something like 'missing' with a 'do not use' description
- Save the record.
- Verify you can create a new inventory record now.
The issue is related to a purchase order, sales order, or invoice
