Summary
Error: "An unknown error has occurred. To protect your company data, Sage 50 will now shut down". The error occurs when opening a Sage 50 Accounting data file on the network.
Cause
- There's an issue with network rights
- The workstation lost connection to the server
Resolution
Network rights-related issue
- Copy the data file (SAI and SAJ) to your desktop from the network.
- If the data opens fine, your network access has limited rights.
- Contact your network administrator to fix the access rights
Data-related issue
- Open the SAJ folder and locate the errorlog.txt file.
- Open the errorlog.txt file in Notepad.
- If the error log contains hex dump data or large blank space, then there's data corruption.

The workstation lost connection to the server
- To modify the power management for the network adapter on the workstation.
- Type Device Manager in Windows search and open the application
- Expand Network Adapters
- Right-click on the adapter
- Select Properties
- Select the Power Management tab
- Clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save the power checkbox
- Repeat the same process if you have more than one network adapter.
Turn off the firewall
- Turn off the firewall on the workstation and the server.
- Allow exceptions of the Sage 50 processes and data folders.
