Steps to resolve the error: "A company file with the same ID is currently being shared" when sharing a file with Remote Data Access (RDA) in Sage 50 Accounting.
You have already shared a file with the same company name
Check the file environment
- Ensure the SAJ folder of the company file is clean.
- Ensure the data file isn’t on a cloud-synced folder like OneDrive, Dropbox, or Google Drive.
Stop sharing the other file
- Go to File, Connect to a Shared Company.
- If prompted, log in with your Sage account email address.
- If the company you were trying to share is on the Shared Company list, select it, and click Connect.
- If you don’t see your company on the list, use the option to save a copy
- In the file location window, change the file name to prevent overwriting an existing company file.
EXAMPLE: ABC123COPY.SAI. - Once the shared file is open, go to File, Remote Data Access, and click Stop Sharing.
NOTE: Ensure you're the file owner and you're logged in with your Sage account email. - Once this file is no longer shared, close it and reopen the other copy that you couldn’t share previously.
- Share the company file by going to File, Remote Data Access, Share Company.
Save a Copy
- Go to File, Save a Copy.
- Save a copy of the file with a new name.
- Go to Setup, Settings, Company, Information, and change the company name to something different.
- Try to share the file again with Remote Data Access.
The error comes up after doing an update
- Restore a backup from before converting the company file.
- Click Browse to change the name or location you’re restoring to.
- This will allow you to keep the old file. You can run reports for any transactions that you’ll be re-entering into the restored file.
- Click Start to convert the company file.
- Once the file is open, go to File, Remote Data Access, Share Company.
