Viewing and correcting liability accounts

A formatting issue previously caused liability accounts (for example, credit cards, loans) to display with a minus sign (-) instead of a plus sign (+). Some older accounts can still display incorrectly and appear under Assets in the Balance Sheet report.

For accurate financial reports and tax compliance, follow these steps to correct older liability accounts:

  1. Go to Banking.

  2. Open the older liability account. Note the balance and last cleared transaction date.

  3. Click New Entry, then select Disconnect Bank Account.

  4. Rename the account (for example, from "Chase Visa" to "XXChase Visa") to mark it for deletion and move it down the list.

  5. Click Add a New Account.

  6. Select Credit Card or Loan for the Account Type.

  7. Enter the new account details and click Save.

  8. On the Banking page, click New and then Money Transfer.

  9. Select the renamed account under Paid to Bank Account.

  10. Select the new account under Paid from Bank Account.

  11. Enter the previous balance as a positive number in Amount Transferred.

  12. Optionally, add a reference or description.

  13. Click Save.

    • If the system connects the old account to a bank feed, reconnect the new account
