| | How to record customer receipts |
| Description | When you receive a customer payment, record it using the Customer Receipt tab on the Receipt page. Use this process when one payment covers multiple invoices. Allocate payments on account or credit notes while recording the receipt. To allocate credits or payments without recording a receipt, use the Account Allocation page. |
| Resolution | To record a customer receipt - Go to Banking.
- On the New menu, select Sale/Receipt.
- On the Receipt (Incoming money) tab, enter the receipt details.
- Complete all required fields marked with an asterisk (*).
Receipt fields | Customer | Enter the company name or reference, then select the correct customer from the list. | | Paid into Bank Account | Confirm the bank account. Select a different account if required. | | Method * | Select the payment method. | | Date Received * | Enter the date you received the payment. | | Amount Received * | Enter the total amount paid by the customer. | | Your Reference (optional) | Enter a reference for this receipt. | Allocate the receipt - Select the invoices the customer paid.
- The system reduces the remaining balance automatically.
- Extra amounts create a payment on account.
- To mark all invoices as paid, select the checkbox at the top left of the list.
Allocate a payment on account or credit note - Select the payment on account or credit note
- Select the invoice to allocate it to
Partial payments and discounts To pay an invoice partially: - Select the Paid column for the invoice.
- In the Part Pay window, enter the amount in Amount to Pay.
- Select Apply.
To apply a discount: - Select the Discount column.
- Enter the discount value in Discount.
- Select Apply.
The amount paid plus the discount can’t exceed the outstanding balance. Save the receipt - Select Save to finish.
- Select Add Another to save and record another receipt.
- If an amount remains unallocated, Sage Accounting asks to save it as a payment on account.
- Select Yes to save it or No to return and allocate it to another invoice.
