ARCHIVED: How to create an account in my Chart of Account if I don't have enough sequential number in between?

Cause

Two  consecutive account numbers,one as Subgroup Account and the other is Subgroup Total on the Chart of Accounts.

Resolution

Note: The Chart of Account should be in logical order and in sequential numbers.You will not be able to create other accounts if there is no room  between the 2 consecutive numbers.

Option 1: Upgrade to Sage 50 Premium or Quantum

  1. Premium and higher versions allow account numbers of up to 8 digits.

Option 2:

Workaround:

On the Accounts module, Chart of Account Records window, Account tab

  1. Change the Type of Subgroup Total account  (eg. 2340) to be Subgroup Account. Save and Close. 
  2. Find an available number to create new Subgroup Total account (eg. 2341).
  • If next account number (eg. 2341) is free, create new account and select the type to be Subgroup Total account ". (refer to Related Resources on How do I create a new account in my Chart of Accounts?)
  • If next account number (eg. 2341) has already been occupied by a group account, refer to Related Res sources on Error: "Your accounts are not in logical order. The reason is: ... "
