Refunding customer invoices in the Sage 50 Accounting receipt journal.
The steps below assume you have a negative invoice or you have voided a paid invoice.
- Go to Customers & Sales (Receivable) and open the Receipts window.
- Select customer you want to refund.
- In Paid By, select a refund method.
- If by cheque or cash, in Deposit To, select the bank account the refund is coming from.
- If by cheque, enter the Cheque number you'll be cutting the refund to.
TIP: For clarity, add a prefix in the Cheque field to separate deposit cheques from refund cheques. - Select the negative invoice that you're refunding.
- The Total amount must be negative.
- Click Process (Post).
- If refunding by cheque, write a cheque to the client. Alternatively, use the Pay Expenses, Make Other Payment option to print a cheque only (not a post):
- Select Vendor and Purchase/ Payables module
- Select the Payments icon
- On the Payments Journal, change Pay Purchase Invoices to Make Other Payment
- In the By field, choose an option
- Verify Bank Account
- Select an Account in the Acct field
- Enter the Amount
- Verify the Total is correct
- Click the Print icon, but don't click Post
- If refunding by cash, then hand the cash amount to the client.
- If refunding by other means, then use the other method (such as a debit machine).
