How to resolve the error "file read only" when trying to open a data file over the network.

Resolution

 CAUTION: This solution requires advanced knowledge of Windows security and network settings. Sage isn't responsible for any issues that arise from changes to these settings. Ensure you back up all system and application databases necessary for a complete restoration. It's advisable to contact a certified consultant or your system administrator for assistance.


Option 1: Run program as administrator

  1. Right-click Sage 50 Icon
  2. Select Run as administrator
  3. Open company file

Option 2: Reboot

  • Reboot server or the data location computer

Option 3: Check Permissions on Shared file folder

  1. Go to the Server/Primary computer that has the shared folder.
  2. Right-click on the folder, choose properties.
  3. Under Permissions.
    • Verify that "user" is added to the list of names and that they have full rights and access
  4. Under Shared
    • Select the advance share button
    • Select Permissions
    • Check to make sure that "User" has Full Control selected
  5. Close properties.
  6. On work station try to open company file over network.


Option 4: Access to Data file directory but unable to load company file

  1. Open Sage 50.
  2. Choose Select an existing company.
  3. Remove information on the line file name.
  4. Enter two backward slashes and then IP address of server (\\IP address).
  5. Select Open, and access the location of the file on server.
  6. Open the Sage 50 file (.SAI).


Option 5: Ensure the same version of Sage Connection Manager is installed on the server and the workstation

Option 6: Un-install and Re-install on both computers

  • When uninstalling Sage 50, remove the 2 installed OBDC connectors

Option 7: Reset the users

  • Contact Sage 50 support to reset the sysadmin username
