How can I create an account in the Chart of Accounts?

Summary

There are three options to create an account in your Sage 50 Accounting. Use the Chart of Accounts, the Setup Guide, or the Wizard.

Description

Account Types:

  • Every set of accounts must start with an H (group heading) and end with a T (group total)
  • For every sequence of A (subgroup account), an S (subgroup total) follows
  • An example of logical sequences:
    1. H,G,T
    2. H, A, S, G, T
    3. H, G, A, S, T
    4. H, A, S, T

Resolution

Use the Chart of Accounts

  1. Select the Company module.
  2. Select on the Chart of Accounts icon.
  3. Select File, then Create.
  4. Enter the Account number and Name.
  5. On the Account tab, select the proper Type according to the Additional information section.
  6. Select the Class Options tab.
  7. Select the appropriate option on the drop-down box beside the Account Class.
    • No Class Options are necessary for Group Heading and Group Total
  8. Select Save and Close.

Use the Setup Guide

  1. Select Setup, Setup Guide, Accounts.
  2. Select Add Account.
  3. Enter the appropriate information.
  4. Save and Close.

Use the Wizards

  1. Select Setup, Wizards, Modify Accounts.
  2. Under Organize Your Account Records windows, select Add.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Follow the wizard to create your account.

Error: "Your accounts are not in logical order. The reason is: ... "
