Options to do file sharing on two different locations

A few options worth considering to allow file sharing when two users are in different network locations:

Option I: Remote Data

Option II: Make a backup and swap the backup file back and forth

• Once you are done working with the file, create a backup and send it to the other person who needs to access the file. Some options to send the file include:
• Email (if the backup file size is small enough to be attached in an email)
• External Hard-drive/memory stick
• Third-party Cloud Services (such as DropBox, Google Drive, Microsoft SkyDrive, YouSendIt...).
  • IMPORTANT: Do not operate the Sage 50 (.sai &.saj) directly in the Cloud Service folder; it puts you at risk of file corruption. Only use it for transfer from one location to another

When you send a file to someone for editing, they will enter new transactions that you won't have until they send the file back to you. They need to send the file back to you for you to pick up where they left. You cannot therefore enter new transactions on your local file when they are working on a file that you sent them; that information would be lost in the sense of being entered in a different file

Option III: Remotely connect to one of your computer

Another option is for that person to make a remote access through the internet on a computer where Sage 50 is installed part of the office network. An IT technician would be required to set this up

Some possible tools:

• Windows Remote Desktop Connection
• TeamViewer
• LogMeIn
• lots more third party companies offer this type of services

Note: If your Sage 50 doesn't allow multi-user mode (requires Premium or Quantum), only one person will be able to access the Sage 50 file at a time
