Error: "The user name and password are incorrect..."

There are various reasons you receive the error "The user name and password are incorrect. Enter a valid user name and password" when opening a Sage 50 Accounting data file. For the steps to resolve, select the option below that describes your issue.

I was able to log in with sysadmin prior version but not the latest version

1. Enter sysadmin as the User Name.
2. Enter the first seven characters of your Password.
   • To avoid password confusion, change your password to seven characters or less in the prior version
3. Enter your new password for sysadmin when converting to the latest version.
   
   • The password can be longer than seven characters in 2023.0 and higher versions
4. After you open the file in the new version, verify your password is now longer than seven characters. 

The error still occurs after entering my known sysadmin password

1. If your system administrator doesn't know the password, contact Customer Support at 1-888-522-2722 for a password reset.
2. If the password reset doesn't work, restore from a recent backup to a local drive.

I can log in with sysadmin but not with another username

1. Log in to the company using sysadmin as the username.
2. Select Setup, then Set Up Users.
3. Type the sysadmin password.
4. Select OK.
5. Select the User, then Modify.
6. Enter the Password, then Re-enter Password.
   • The password limit is seven characters in 2022 and older
   • The password can be longer than seven characters in 2023.0 and higher versions
7. Select OK.
8. Select Close.
