I can see the data folder (SAJ), but can’t locate the company file icon (.SAI).
- The icon file (SAI) has been removed
- The restore window will not show the SAI file
- The icon file (.SAI) is locked in data location, file permissions do not allow access from the workstation
Method 1: Restore a backup
Method 2: Recreate the .SAI file
Option 1: Using a sample company
- Go to the sample company directory, follow How to open a sample company?
- Copy the .SAI file to the same location as the .SAJ folder.
- Rename the .SAI file to the same name as the .SAJ folder without the .SAJ name extension.
- Open the file as usual.
Option 2: .SAI file is locked and can be seen on host PC but not on remote PC
- If the .SAI file exists but it is locked (represented by a lock appearing on the icon in the lower left-hand corner).
- Copy the .SAI file to the same location.
- Rename the locked .SAI file to .OLD.
- Rename the copied .SAI file to the same name as the .SAJ folder without the .SAJ extension.
- Open the file as usual.
Option 3: The SAI file is on the server
Contact your IT support to ensure that permissions on all files allow access from the workstation.
Option 4: Open in Notepad
- Open Notepad.
- Do not type anything in the Notepad editor.
- Select File, then Save As.
- Browse to the location where the icon file should be.
- Do not save it inside the SAJ folder
- In the Save as type drop-down list, change it to All files (*.*).
- In the File name field, delete everything and enter the same name as the SAJ folder but replace the .SAJ with .SAI.
- Select Save.
- Verify you now see a Sage 50 icon.
- Double-click on the Sage 50 icon.
- If the file opens in Notepad, then it means the extension is .SAI.txt and not .SAI.
- Click View in your Explorer, and check the box for File name extensions
- Right-click the Sage 50 file and select Rename
- Delete the .TXT such that the end of the file should be .SAI
- Repeat step 9 above again until Sage 50 Accounting opens the company.
Option 5: Using the Mini Menu
- In the same folder as the .SAJ folder.
- Right-click your mouse button to bring up a mini menu.
- Select New, then Text File.
- Name the text file the same part of the .SAJ folder (before the .SAJ).
- Select Save.
- Right-click the file, select Rename.
- Delete the .TXT such that the end of the file should be .SAI.
- The file should now open.
