How to switch from local LAN sharing to remote RDA sharing?

Summary

I used to work in Sage 50 by opening a company file saved on a server in our local network (via a VPN connection or not) and now I want to access my company file by sharing it on the cloud via Remote Data Access (formerly Sage Drive)

Description

I want to share my data remotely instead of locally and be able to access my data from anywhere via the internet.

Cause

Resolution

  1. Retrieve the company data files (SAI file + SAJ folder) from the server and move them locally onto the C drive of your workstation.
  2. Open this local company file in Sage 50 and share it with Remote Data Access. Follow How to share a company data file using Remote Data access (RDA).

Note:

  • When using RDA, a copy of the company file is uploaded to Sage servers and every Sage 50 user needs a local copy of the company file on their computer as well
  • The company data will be synchronized on all computers in real-time
  • You won’t need to use your server anymore since every Sage 50 will open a local copy of the company data file on their workstation
  • Make sure you open the right file when you start Sage 50: look for a green logo that says “Shared” in the top left corner when the company file is open
  • Sage Remote Data Access servers are located in Canada
