What is historical mode?

Created on  | Last modified on

Description

  • Entering financial history assumes the general journal entries were already done to the needed associated accounts
  • Entering historical invoice and payments in the Historical Tab in the Vendor or Customer Record will not post any general journal entries. Do not post historical transactions through this tab if the debit or credit entries have not been recorded as part of the past financial records. Use the Sage 50 modules (sales, purchases, payroll, general journal) instead

Resolution

At the time the new company is created it will be in history mode which allows for the entry of historical information.

Historical information consists of all the transactions that you completed before you started to use Sage 50. These include account balances, vendor and customer invoice and payment information, employee year-to-date earnings, deductions, and expenses, and the quantity and value of inventory on hand.

You should add this information so that your records provide an accurate picture of your business dealings and so that Sage 50 can correctly calculate taxes, payroll, inventory value, etc.

A History symbol beside an icon indicates that a window is able to accept historical transactions.

Note that historical information is not the same as the company's financial history.  The financial data is what Sage 50 accumulates over several years as your business operates.

Decide When You Want to Add Historical Information

Sage 50 is set up to accept historical transactions and current day-to-day transactions concurrently; you do not have to enter all the historical information before entering new transactions.

You can add all or most of your historical information before you start using Sage 50 for normal day to day transactions or you can add it as time allows. You can add entire lists of vendors, customers, or employees, or add each of them "on the fly" as you happen to be entering a purchase, sale, or paycheque.

After you finish entering historical information, you can set up Sage 50 to accept only new transactions.  It is recommended that you make a backup of your file by clicking File, Backup. To leave History mode click on History, Finish Entering History from the home screen.
