Before you start

You need Edit settings permission to delete a ledger account.

You can delete a ledger account only when all these conditions apply:

  • The account is not a control account
  • No customer or supplier uses it as a default
  • No contact record uses it
  • No stock item, non-stock item, or service uses it as a default
  • No product or service uses it
  • No transaction settings or currency settings use it as a default
  • Opayo, GoCardless, or Stripe does not use it as a default bank account
  • The account has no activity, including deleted transactions
  • The linked bank account has no active bank feed

Delete a ledger account

  1. Go to Settings, then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Select the ledger account you want to remove.
  3. Select Delete.
  4. On the confirmation prompt, select Yes to confirm.

Sage Accounting removes the account from the chart of accounts when it meets all criteria.

Reuse a ledger account number

You can reuse the account number after you delete the ledger account.

What happens to linked bank accounts

Sage Accounting also deletes the associated bank account when you delete its ledger account.

When you can't delete an account

If you aren't able to delete an account, see How to activate or disactivate ledger account visibility to uncheck the box "Included in chart".
