| Converting data from Simply Accounting DOS |
Resolution | [BCB:1:Backup warning:ECB]
Overview: Converting DOS data is a two-step process, due to the changes in database formats as newer versions were introduced. The first conversion is done using a special utility that will update the DOS .rec files to an intermediate format(will have an .asc extention). In the second conversion you simply need to open that .asc file with Sage 50 to update it to an .SAI file. The following directions explain each step in detail. Part 1: Converting from DOS .rec files to .asc - Download upgrade.exe utility to your Sage 50 Application folder (for example: C:\program files\Sage 50 ), then double-click on the upgrade.exe file
- You will need to know where your Simply Accounting for DOS data is stored on the C: drive. The location is what you normally type at the Company Name prompt when you start Simply Accounting for DOS
- Choose the C: drive from the Look in box
- Browse to the folder that contains your Simply DOS data and select the file SN4.REC (or SN3.REC) and click Open
- The Choose Location to Save Converted Simply Accounting Data window appears. Click the Save in box to choose a location for the new file (The default folder is C:\Program Files\Winsim\Data)
- Type the desired name for the converted file for your company in the File name field and click Save
- Make sure the Number of Records Transferred (as shown below) looks correct, then click OK
- If there is an error about duplicate vendor or customer names then these names must be changed in the DOS version before the data will convert. If you cannot find the duplicate name then export the customer of vendor list to a WKS file format and open the file in Excel and use the sort function to find the duplicate Vendor/Customer record. If one of the GST4.REC files is larger than 500 Kb then delete this file and convert the data without it
Part 2: Converting from .ASC to .SAI format - Start Sage 50
- Choose Select an existing company if the welcome menu appears
- Browse for the converted file you named in Part I and click Open
- Accept the session date, then click the Setup menu, then Settings or System Settings (depending on your version), then Company Information. Double-check that your Fiscal Start, Fiscal End, Earliest Transaction and session dates are set properly
- Close the Company Information window, then click the Maintenance menu and choose Check Data Integrity to make sure your data is OK
