How can I change the number of an existing general ledger account?
Description

Resolution

Once transactions have been posted to an account, you can no longer change its account number.

This feature is only possible using the Accountant's Edition.

If your accountant uses the Accountant's Edition:

Note: An account can only be renumbered within the same account group range. For example, if an account is an asset account you can not renumber it to be a liability account.

  1. Make a backup of the data file.
  2. Forward the backup to your accountant so he can make the requested change.
  3. Stop using Sage 50 and any data entry for this company file.
  4. Restore from the modified backup your accountant has made.

If your accountant doesn't use the Accountant's Edition:

  1. Go to www.sagecity.com and post requesting assistance with updating account numbers.
  2. Contact the partner that responds and inquire about their availability (chargeable).
  3. Upon agreement, make a backup of your data file.
  4. Forward the backup to the partner so they can make the requested change.
  5. Stop using Sage 50 and any data entry for this company file.
  6. Restore from the modified backup the partner has returned to you.
