Error: " The code can't be executed..."

Summary

Error: " The code can't be executed, as SAGE_SA_FILEVER can't be found. Reinstalling the program will correct this problem" when updating Sage 50 Accounting.

Description

The error can occur with any of these dll files: 

  • Sage_QIFLib.dll
  • SAGE_SA_UPDCHK.dll
  • SAGE_SA_FILEVER.dll
  • SAGE_SA_BUS.dll

Cause

  • Avast antivirus moves the installer file to quarantine
  • Norton antivirus stopped the installation

Resolution

When using Norton antivirus

  1. Right-click the Norton icon in the taskbar.
  2. Disable Auto-Protect and Smart Firewall for 10 minutes to one hour.

  3. Open Norton and turn off the Advanced Security.

  4. Reinstall Sage 50.
  5. Verify that you can open Sage 50 and complete the update.
  6. Open Norton and turn Auto-Protect, Smart Firewall, and Advanced Security back on.

When using Avast antivirus

  1. Move the file out of quarantine and add it as 'exception allowed'. Contact Avast support if you need assistance.
  2. Uninstall and reinstall Sage 50.
  3. Verify that you can open Sage 50 and complete the update.
