Summary
While the Data Owner role existed in Sage 50 Accounting before 2025.0, the Account Owner role is new. Here's an overview of the differences and relationship between these two roles.
Resolution
Account Owner
- Account Owner is a new role as of version 2025.0
- An Account Owner is the Sage Account email address that is associated with the Sage Account ID (4xxxxxxxxx)
- Only one Account Owner can exist for each Sage Account ID
- An Account Owner can access Sage Connect and Sage HR data for each company within the Sage 50 subscription
- The first Sage account to cloud onboard a company in version 2025.0 or later automatically becomes the Account Owner for all companies. They also become the Data Owner for the specific company they onboarded
Data Owner
- When you onboard a company file to the cloud, a Data Owner is set
NOTE: Not all customers get a prompt to onboard currently
- The Data Owner is the sysadmin for a company file
- A Data Owner can also be an Account Owner if they were the first Sage account to onboard a company in version 2025.0 or later
- The Data Owner only has rights to sysadmin functions in a single company file (unless the data owner is also the Account Owner)
- The Data Owner controls who can access their company file
- While the Data Owner can set up Sage HR in Sage 50, they don't automatically have admin rights in Sage HR. If needed, the Account Owner can set them as an admin from the Sage HR website
