ARCHIVED: Why can't I print Relevé 1 (RL-1) using preprinted forms from Revenu Québec?

Resolution

  • You may print pre-printed Relevé 1 employee copy (to employees only) forms but not the copy 1 forms

Solution:

First, we need to link the RL-1 slip number to the employees:

  1. Go to File, Import/Export, Electronic Filing, Export RL-1
  2. Select your employees to include and select the proper reporting year.
  3. Enter your transmitter number. Enter 000000 if you don't have one.
  4. Enter the 8-digit RL-1 slip number from your government pre-printed form. The preprinted forms have 9 digits. Don't include the last digit.
  5. Complete the Business Information and Contact Information sections.
  6. Click OK
  7. Enter any income or deduction box options to track values in other fields if necessary.
  8. Click OK to proceed.
  9. The system will validate the employees selected to determine if any are invalid (no amount earned in the reporting year, invalid SIN number).
  10. It will then generate a file that you can upload to the government website. Save this file.

Next, we need to change Sage 50 to use the plain paper printing option.

  1. Click Setup, Reports & Forms, Government Forms, Quebec Payroll.
  2. Change the Form Type field value to Plain-paper laser & inkjet form. Select the correct printer.
  3. Click OK.

Finally, we can print the RL-1 forms with the bar code on plain paper.

  1. Go to Reports, Payroll, Print Relevé 1 slips.
  2. Select your employees and the proper reporting year.
  3. Enter your transmitter number or 000000 if you don't have one.
  4. Enter any income or deduction box options to track values in other fields if necessary.
  5. Click OK to proceed to the validation and printing step.
  6. This form will print the 2D barcode on the Relevé 1 form.
