Summary

How to resolve the error: "This application has failed to start because MSVCP120.dll (or mfc120.dll) was not found" or "mfc140.dll, or msvcp140.dll is missing" when opening Sage 50 Accounting.

Cause

The Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable (x86) component is missing or corrupt.

Resolution

Follow these two steps to resolve the issue.

Uninstall and reinstall the program

  1. Uninstall Sage 50.
  2. Install Sage 50 from the Installer files folder.
    • Go to Start, Control Panel, Programs and features
    • Verify that both the following components are installed:
      • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2
      • Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 redistributable (x86)

Download the missing components and install them
