Summary

How to resolve the error: "The total of the payment amount and the discount taken on this line cannot exceed the amount owing."

Cause

  • A line item on the receipt includes a discount and payment that together exceed the amount owing
  • The receipt in Sage 50 contains different details than the one in Sage Accounting

Resolution

In Sage Accounting:

  • Adjust the Discount Taken amount
  • Adjust the Amount Received

These changes ensure the total doesn’t exceed the amount owing for that line item.

Then:

  • Void the receipt in Sage 50
  • Re-import the corrected receipt from Sage Accounting
