How to create a sales credit note

Resolution

Use one of the methods below to create a Sales Credit Note in Sage 50.

Use the Create the Credit Note journal

 NOTE: You need a Sage 50 Premium version or higher with a support plan to access the Credit Note journal. If you don't have access to Credit Notes, create a customer deposit instead. 

  1.  Go to Customers & Sales/Receivables.
  2. Right-click the Sales Invoices icon and select Credit Note.
  3. Select Create Credit Note.
  4. In the Customer box, select or enter the customer name.
  5. Select Pay Later from the Payment Method list, unless you're issuing a refund immediately.
  6. In the Credit Note No. box, enter a number after the prefix CN.
  7. Enter the line details for the items being returned or refunded.
  8. Enter any other necessary information.
  9. Click either Process or Post.

Enter a deposit to credit the customer's account

 NOTE: You can also use this method if you're using Sage 50 Pro version or don't have a Sage 50 CT support plan and aren't able to create a regular credit note. 

  1. Open the Receipts window.
  2. Select the customer.
  3. Click the Receipt menu at the top.
  4. Select Enter Deposits
  5. Enter the amount in Deposit Amount at the bottom.
  6. Enter the Deposit Reference No..
  7. Click Post or Process.
