Summary

How to change the earliest transaction date in Sage 50 Accounting.

Resolution

Yoou have created a new company and no transactions have been recorded:

  1. Click on File, New Company.
  2. Follow the prompts until you get to the screen that asks you for the 'Earliest Transaction:'
  3. Enter the correct date.

You have created a new company and made numerous modifications within the company file but you are still in 'Historical Mode':

  1. Click on Setup, Settings, Company, Information.
  2. Change the 'Earliest Transaction Date' to the date you want.
NOTE: The date must be within your current fiscal year and not earlier than your original Earliest Transaction Date. This only works in Historical Mode—otherwise, the option is disabled. If transactions exist before that date, you can't move it forward.

You opened a new year but you still have transactions to post in the year prior to the previous year:

  1. Restore a backup you made before opening the new year.
  2. Finish entering transactions in the prior year before opening the new year to make transaction in the third year. Sage 50 only allows transactions to be posted in the current and previous year.
