My inventory asset account isn’t showing in the general journal

Summary

How to resolve the issue when the inventory asset account isn’t showing in the general journal in Sage 50 Accounting.

Cause

A recently created inventory item was set up as an inventory type with an asset account but changed to a service type.

Resolution

Option 1: My company file has inventory and services items

  1. Open one inventory item record.
  2. Click the Linked tab.
  3. Under Asset:
    1. Take note of the asset account currently linked.
    2. Click the drop-down list and select the account you have an issue with.
  4. Click Save and Close.
  5. Open the same inventory item record.
  6. On the Linked tab, change the Asset account back to the original one (step 3).
  7. Click Save and Close.
  8. Open the General journal window.
  9. The asset account should now be available.

Option 2: My company file has Services only items

  1. Create an inventory item of Type: Inventory.
  2. Follow the steps from Option 1.
  3. If the account is showing on General journal, then you can go back in inventory and services to delete the inventory item you created.

Option 3: Restore from backup

If all of the above solutions aren’t working, restore from a backup.
