Error: "Unable to backup company file; one or more files are in read only state"

Resolution

Section I: Run Sage as Administrator

  1. Right-click on the Sage 50 icon
  2. Click Run as Administrator
  3. Verify the read only errors are gone

Section II: Move the backup

  1. Go to File, Backup
  2. Under the File Name section, enter a new name
  3. Under the Location section, click on the Browse button
  4. Change file location to a new folder under the C: drive
  5. Click OK to confirm the location
  6. Click OK again to proceed with the backup creation
