How to resolve the error: "Unable to backup company file; one or more files are in read only state" when creating a backup in Sage 50 Accounting.
Resolution
Run Sage as Administrator
- Right-click on the Sage 50 icon
- Click Run as Administrator
- Verify the read only errors are gone
Move the backup
- Go to File, Backup
- Under the File Name section, enter a new name
- Under the Location section, click on the Browse button
- Change file location to a new folder under the C: drive
- Click OK to confirm the location
- Click OK again to proceed with the backup creation
