How to build an item from the build from bill of materials

Summary

Sage 50 Accounting guide on how to build inventory items using a bill of materials, including setup requirements and steps to post a build transaction.

Resolution

NOTE:

Each component needs its own inventory record, and all items must be in the same location to complete the build.

1. Define the inventory items that go into the assembled item

  1. Go to Inventory & Services.
  2. Double-click on the inventory item to open the Inventory & Services Records.
  3. Create the inventory item first, if it isn’t on your list.
  4. Select the Build tab.
  5. Enter the Quantity. You can use up to four decimal points.
  6. Select the component items that will create the built item and the quantities for each item.
  7. Enter any additional cost associated with the built item and select the account to record the additional costs to.
  8. Select Save and Close.

2. Creating an item from Build of Materials

  1. From the Sage 50 homepage, select Switch to Enhanced View at the top right.
    • If you're already in Enhanced View, skip this step.
  2. Go to Inventory & Services, then click Build from Bill of Materials.
  3. Select the location of the inventory item.
  4. Enter the source, date, and comment.
  5. Select the Item.
  6. Enter the quantity to build.
  7. Click Post.
