Summary

There are various reasons why the "Opening Database. Wait..." window hangs when opening Sage 50 Accounting. The options below provide troubleshooting steps to assist in resolving the issue.

Cause

  • The MySQL Connector is damaged
  • File/Folder location maybe compressed - Sage 50 Accounting can’t open compressed files
  • Bad connection to the server
  • Computer is waiting for reboot after Windows Update
  • Computer is missing windows updates

Resolution

It happens when opening the sample company

  1. Go to Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features.
  2. Uninstall Sage 50 Accounting Version 20xx.
  3. Reinstall Sage 50.
  4. Reboot the computer.
  5. Open the sample company. If it opens, open your company data.

Check for Windows updates

  1. Check all computers for Windows updates.
  2. Reboot the main computer and the workstations to complete any Windows updates.
  3. O.pen the sample company. If it opens, open your company data.

Uninstall the MySQL Connectors

  1. Go to Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features.
  2. Uninstall MySQL Connector/ODBC 3.51 and MySQL Connector/ODBC 5.2(a).
  3. Reinstall the MySQL Connectors (C:\Sage\Sage 50 Accounting Installer Files XXX\BIN\MySQLODBC\).
  4. Reboot the computer.
  5. Try to open your company files again.

Check for compressed folders

  1. Check the company filename in Windows Explorer and ensure it doesn’t have blue arrows like in the image below.

  2. If you see blue icons on the data folder, right-click it, then go to Properties, Advanced.
    • Clear the Compress contents to save disk space checkbox

Remove simplyxxx.ini file

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Open C:\Users\userxxx\AppData\Local\Simply Accounting.
    • If the Appdata folder isn’t showing on the file explorer window, go to View and click Hidden items
  3. If you’re using Sage 50 2024, delete the simply310.ini file.
    • Simply 300.ini for 2023 version
    • The latest version will be the last date modified
    • Delete only the simplyxxx.ini file specific to the Sage 50 version that you can’t open
  4. Reboot your computer.
  5. Open the sample company.
    • If it opens, open your company data
