How can I send backup by email if the email server is rejecting a CAB file extension?

Summary

The email server rejects any email sent with CAB file attachments. Restrictions on email security will not be changed on receiver email in order to accomodate the .CAB file for security reason.

Resolution

  1. The CAB file extension must be changed to .txt or any other extension that is accepted by the receiver email server
  2. Open File explorer.
  3. Click on the View button at the top of the window
  4. In the Show/Hide section, tick the box for File name extensions
  5. Select the backup file
  6. Right click on the file and rename the file extension to .txt
  7. Email the backup file again.
  8. When the recipient receives the backup file via email, they are required to rename the file extension back to .CAB after downloading the attachment.
