It outlines common causes such as permission settings, antivirus interference, disk space limitations, and naming conventions. The article also offers guidance on adjusting these settings and includes additional measures for addressing persistent issues. Recommended solutions may involve checking file and directory permissions, creating folders at specific locations, and consulting IT support for environment-specific configurations.

Description

IMPORTANT: Sage 50 Accounting is designed to operate with the database residing on a local drive or, externally, with the database residing on another computer with at least the connection manager installed.

Cause

  • Client is trying to create a company file in a cloud storage solution, or network drive that does not contain the connection manager
  • The antivirus is blocking the creation of a new company
  • The file location has encryption turned enabled
  • There are restrictive rights on the folder where the new company file is being saved
  • Dot net framework 3.5 sp1 is corrupt

Resolution

Option 1: If a company file is located on a Cloud, NAS (Network Attached Storage), External Hard Drive

  • Sage 50 Accounting is not designed to operate on these devices
  • Please change the file location to a local drive instead, for example "C:\Accounting Data\" or on a server with at least the connection manager installed.

Option 2: Data Stored on a Server

  • If your data is normally stored on a server, then store it on the shared folder drive set by your administrator.

Option 3: The file is being created locally or on shared folder on the server

  • Creating the new company again without the chart of account initially and then add the chart of account after finish saving the company in the local hard drive.

Option 4: IPV6 settings

  1. On the computer, open Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer
  2. In event viewer select Applications, under Windows Logs, on the left side of the screen
  3. Then look for a red Warning about MySQL, open up the Warning
  4. If the warning is complaining about IPv6, see Article: DocLink: Error: "Cannot open company file" during conversion to Sage 50

Option 5: Antivirus and firewall settings
