Summary
How to resolve the error: "The file cannot be restored to the selected directory because you do not have the rights for this directory." when restoring from backup in Sage 50 Accounting.
Cause
- A Sage 50 backup contains the location where the data file was originally saved
- Restore attempt to a restricted location
- User Account Control (UAC) is enabled
Resolution
Run Sage 50 as administrator
I’m restoring to C:\Program files\ (or C:\Program files (x86)\)
- Enter the name of the new file. Click Browse.
- Create a folder in 'C:\MySagedata\'.
- Browse to this folder.
- Relabel the filename 'NEW' to a more descriptive filename.
- Click Save.
- If asked to replace an existing company file, click No and replace the name.
- Click Finish.
I’m restoring to C:\Users\[usernameX]\ but usernameX doesn’t exist on this PC
- Enter the name of the new file. Click Browse.
- Create a folder in 'C:\MySagedata\'.
- Browse into this folder.
- Relabel the filename 'NEW' to a more descriptive filename.
- Click Save.
- If asked to replace an existing company file, click No and replace the name.
- Click Finish.
