Summary

How to solve the error: "Could not connect to the Sage 50 Company Database. You must be an administrator (sysadmin) or a user with full accounting rights and third-party Read/Write Access." The error occurs when using the Sage Accounting migration tool.

Cause

  • The password exceeds seven characters
  • Third-party Read/Write Access isn’t enabled
  • Migration tool doesn’t accept the password
  • The password appears incorrect despite being valid
  • The tool rejects passwords longer than seven characters

Resolution

Shorten the Password

  1. Ensure the password contains no more than seven characters.
  2. If the password is longer, delete any characters beyond the seventh.
  3. Try logging in again with the shortened password.
  4. Confirm that the migration tool proceeds without errors.

Enable Third-Party Read/Write Access

  1. Open Setup, then select Setup Users.
  2. Click sysadmin, then click Modify.
  3. Select the Read/Write Access option.
  4. Save the changes and verify that the migration tool now connects successfully.
