My computer is very slow and high CPU usage occurs when attempting to use Sage 50

Summary

Help to solve issues with slow computer performance when attempting to use Sage 50.

Resolution

Option 1:

Option 2:

  • In Windows, go to the Task Manager, Performance Tab, CPU.
  • If the CPU utilization is high, click on the Processes tab and look for high utilization of wmiprvse.exe.
    • If there is not enough resources, check for Windows updates or contact your IT administrator

Option 3:

  • In Windows, go to the Task Manager, Processes.
  • Look for spoolsv.exe.
  • If the CPU usage is at 100%:
    • Turn off the printer
    • Stop service Print Spooler in Control Panel, Admin Tools
    • Go to c:\windows\system32\spool\printers. Delete files with extensions .SHD and .SPL (e.g. '00002.SHD' and '00020.SPL')
    • Restart Print Spooler
    • Restart Printer if any connected
    • Check spoolsv.exe in the Task Manager for low CPU usage
    • Open Sage 50
