In Sage 50 Accounting, you can either remove or refund a credit note, or apply it to an invoice.
Remove and refund your customer's credit note or deposit
Reversing the transaction - Make a backup of your company data.
- Select Receivables, then Receipts.
- Select the customer.
- Enter the amount in the Amount Received column next to the credit note.
NOTE: The total at the bottom will be the same amount as the amount received. - In the Receipt No. field, enter a label indicating this is a refund, and include the cheque number. For example, 'REF00321' or 'REM00321'.
- In the Paid by, select your payment method.
- Choose the account in the Deposit To field and if paid by Cash, Cheque
NOTE: Use the same account as the original account used - Fill in the reference field if paid by Cheque
- Verify all fields are correct, including the Date.
- Click Post (or Process).

Refund by cheque - Manually write the cheque to the client.
- Use the vendor payment module to create a cheque and do a Print only.
- Don’t click Process.
NOTE: If you mistakenly reversed a refund and don’t need one, follow the steps above to reverse a transaction.
