Summary
Error: "Financial Reporter Web Excel configuration error. The version of Microsoft Excel on the server may not be compatible. Contact your administrator for assistance" in the Sage 300 program.
Description
Sage 300 Financial Reporter for the Web fails when Microsoft Office uses versions earlier than Office 365. To make it work, you need to correct DCOM and Excel settings.
Resolution
Prerequisites
- Install Microsoft Excel as the desktop version on the server and client systems
- Identify the Identity User for the Sage 300 Pool application pool in IIS
Configure the DCOM identity

Open IIS, and note the Identity User for the Sage 300 Pool application pool.
- If the Identity User shows LocalSystem, use a Windows administrator account
- If IIS specifies a user, use that user’s credentials

Open Component Services, Computers, My Computer, DCOM Config, Microsoft Excel Application, and then select Properties.

Select the Identity tab, choose This user, and enter the user from IIS with the password.
Configure DCOM security permissions
Launch and activation permissions
- Open the Security tab.
- Under Launch and Activation Permissions, select Customize, and then select Edit.
- Add the user from the IIS screen above.
- Enable Local Launch and Local Activation. Click OK.
Access permissions
- Under Access Permissions, select Customize, and then select Edit.
- Add the user from the IIS screen above.
- Enable Local Access.
- Select Apply, and then select OK.
Final verification
- Sign in to the server using the user defined earlier.
- Open Excel, and accept the Microsoft license agreement if prompted.
- Sign out of the server, especially after Microsoft Remote Desktop use.
- Start Financial Reporter Web from the client workstation.
