How to reverse a customer receipt

Cause
Resolution
  1. Receivables (Customers & Sales), Receipts.
  2. Select the customer.
  3. From the top menu, click Receipts, then Include Fully Paid Invoices/Deposits.
  4. Change the Paid By box to Cash.
  5. Select the correct Deposit To account.
  6. Add info to the Receipt No. (for example: NSF, stale-dated, reversed, void,...).
  7. Change the date to the date your bank reversed the deposit.
  8. Locate the invoice, then enter the amount as a negative in the Amount Received column.
  9. Enter any Comment.
  10. Click Process / Post.

Notes on customer reversals:

  • To charge NSF bank fees:
    • Create a new invoice with a separate line item
    • Apply the charges to Miscellaneous Revenue in the Account column
    • Post a new receipt when the invoice is paid
