Record a credit note from the original sales invoice for returned faulty goods. Record a credit note against any unpaid invoice. You can't create a standalone credit note.

Before creating a credit note

Once you create a credit note, you can't edit it. Ensure the information is correct before saving. To edit a saved credit note, cancel it with a sales invoice of the same details. Create a new credit note with the correct information.

To create a credit note

  1. Go to Sales.
  2. Locate and open the invoice you want to work on. If you can't find the invoice, verify the date range includes the invoice date. Click the All tab or the Outstanding tab.
  3. Review the invoice details and then click Add Credit Note.
  4. Enter the date you want to use for the credit note, and if required, a reference.
  5. If you need to, edit the address.
  6. To credit part of the invoice, edit the amount to show the credited value.
  7. If the invoice has multiple items, click Delete next to any item you don't want to credit.
  8. To attach a file like a sales brochure, image, or supporting document, select Attachment. Then, choose Upload files and browse to the file.
  9. Click Save Credit Note. The credit note appears in your Sales activity list and the contact's activity list.
  10. To print, email, or download it, click the option you want on the Sales Credit Note page.

To email, print, or view a credit note PDF

  1. Go to Sales.
  2. Locate the credit note you want to work with on the list. Select the check box to the left of it.
  3. Click Print, Email, or View PDF.

ProductName2 hosts sales credit notes online. Customers receive a hyperlink to their credit note via email. They can review, save as a PDF, or print the credit note after clicking the link. These functions are also available on mobile devices.
