To ensure accurate accounts, reconcile your bank transactions against your bank statements each time you receive a statement. Verify the bank account - Ensure the bank account is correct for the statement you're reconciling.
- If it's wrong, click Cancel, pick the correct account, and start over.
Check the Statement Date - Ensure the statement date matches your bank statement.
- If it's wrong, change it and click Apply.
- Reconcile any extra transactions if needed.
Check the Statement End balance - Ensure the statement end balance matches your bank statement.
- If it's wrong, enter the correct value and click Apply.
Verify you’ve matched the correct transactions - Match transactions exactly as they appear on your bank statement.
- If you included a transaction by mistake, clear the Reconciled check box.
- To unreconcile all transactions, click Unreconcile All Entries on the Interest and Charges menu.
Enter bank Interest or Charges - Click Interest and Charges, enter the info, and click Save.
- To change interest or charges, clear the Reconciled check box, edit or delete the transaction, and Save.
NOTE: You can’t change a bank-reconciled transaction. Clear the reconciled check box before you save the reconciliation. To edit or delete the transaction: - To edit the transaction, click the transaction, edit the details as required, and click Save
- To delete the transaction, select the check box and click Delete
Check for missing transactions - Ensure all transactions on your bank statement show up on the Bank Reconciliation page.
- If needed, on the "WARNING: if you click Finish the reconciliation is complete and cannot be undone!", click Save for later. Alternatively, you can cancel the reconciliation and start over.
Review saved reconciliations - If you saved a reconciliation for later, check the statement date and end balance.
- Make sure reconciled transactions still match your statement.
- Check all the information. The difference must be zero. If not, unreconcile all transactions and start over. Click Unreconcile All Entries in the Interest and Charges menu.
Is this your first reconciliation? - Ensure the opening balance is correct.
- Compare the opening balance of your bank account to the bank balance. You can check this by going to the Settings menu, under Opening Balances, click Bank Opening Balances.
- Update the balance if it's wrong and click Save.
