I processed payroll year-end after issuing the paycheques of the new year
Description
  • Under the Earnings tab, Last Year amount is too high and This Year is too low
  • T4 is too high and includes this year paycheques
Cause
Resolution

If you have a backup that has all the paycheques for last year and doesn't have the paycheques for the new year

  1. Restore that backup.
  2. Perform the payroll year-end close.
  3. Enter the paycheques for the new year.
  4. Enter any other missing data.

If you've done the year-end a while ago, and you can't work in the backup because of too much data missing

The EMPLOYEE.BTR file contains the YTD and Last year earnings for each employee. We need to update the EMPLOYEE.BTR file to reflect proper earnings.

CAUTION: Make a backup of the current data.

  1. Restore the backup you made before performing the payroll year-end to another folder.  For example: C:\TEST.
  2. Log in to the C:\TEST company and void the timecards done for the new year.
  3. Perform the payroll year-end process. This will give you the correct earnings for Last Year.
  4. Re-enter the timecards you voided in step 2. This will update the earnings for This Year.
  5. Exit the C:\TEST company.
  6. Rename EMPLOYEE.BTR in the live data folder to EMPLOYEE.OLD.
  7. Copy the EMPLOYEE.BTR from the C:\TEST company to the live data folder.

This procedure copies the corrected EMPLOYEE.BTR file into the live company to correct employee earnings.
