| Why are my pensionable earnings zero for an employee compared to others? |
Cause | If the employee is under 18 or over 65 to 70 years of age, they do not pay CPP If they do not pay CPP, they technically have no CPP pensionable earnings |
Resolution | There is nothing to fix. Unless the age (birth date) was incorrectly set in the employee settings.
Verify the birthdate:
- In the Home window, click Employees & Payroll on the navigation pane.
- In the Tasks pane, right-click the Employees icon and select Modify Employee from the menu.
- Select an employee from the list and click OK.
- In the Personal tab, verify the Birth Date.
- If the Birth Date of the employee is in the middle of the year, the CPP deductions to zero will not take effect until the employee is over the age of entitlement for the full paycheque period
If the age (Birth Date) was incorrect:
- Correct the Birth Date.
- If paycheques have already been posted:
- Do the following steps at the end of the calendar year and after the final paycheque:
- Click the T4 and RL-1 Reporting tab.
- On the Pensionable earnings line, enter the correct amount.
- Click Save and Close.
- Print the necessary T4s (or RL-1 for Quebec)
